Hand Dyed Wool Yarn: Purple Red

Wool from our heritage breed sheep processed and spun at Battenkill Mills, has been hand-dyed with botanicals. The dyes, though softer than standard chemical dyes, are color-fast and washable. Each skein is worsted weight yarn, 2-ply, with 176 yards. The wool comes from our heritage breed sheep, Lincoln Longwool, listed as “threatened” by the Livestock Conservancy. It is medium-grade wool with a springy texture, ideal for socks, hats, mittens, and needlework projects. Lincoln is softer than Dorset with more luster. Custom dye requests accepted.

This yarn is dyed with Japanese Indigo, overdyed with madder root, resulting in a deep purple-red.
